A Father’s Guide to Wisdom

What the book of Proverbs can teach us as a father.

As fathers, we have a unique responsibility to teach our children wisdom. Wisdom is not just about knowing the right thing to do, but also about having the courage to do it. It is about understanding the consequences of our actions and making choices that will benefit us and our families in the long run.

The book of Proverbs is a treasure trove of wisdom for fathers. In Proverbs 2:6-19, we find some key takeaways that can help us to raise wise children.

1. Seek wisdom

The first step to raising wise children is to seek wisdom ourselves. We can do this by reading the Bible, studying the lives of wise men and women, and listening to the counsel of those who have more experience than us.

2. Teach your children to fear the Lord

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). When our children fear the Lord, they will respect His authority and obey His commands. They will also be less likely to make foolish choices that could lead to harm.

3. Train your children in the way they should go

We need to train our children in the way they should go from a young age. This means teaching them right from wrong, setting a good example, and providing them with opportunities to learn and grow.

4. Be a role model

Our children are watching us every day. They are learning from our actions, our words, and our attitudes. If we want them to be wise, we need to be wise ourselves.

5. Don't give up

Raising wise children is a lifelong journey. There will be times when we feel discouraged or frustrated. But we must never give up. We need to keep teaching our children, keep setting a good example, and keep praying for them.

For you to think about this week:

Many fathers today are struggling to raise wise children. They are bombarded with conflicting advice from experts, and they are not sure where to turn for help.

The stakes are high. If we don't raise wise children, they are more likely to make foolish choices that could lead to harm. They are also more likely to become victims of crime or addiction.

The book of Proverbs provides us with a wealth of wisdom for fathers. If we follow the principles outlined in Proverbs, we can raise wise children who will honor the Lord and live successful lives.
